Musical Instruments

Designed and Created by Chris Bilton

All the electric and acoustic string instruments and drums Chris makes sound great, look beautiful and feel good to hold and play. His “Grasshopper” Electric Upright Bass was one of the first musical instruments he made, while living in a small NYC apartment in the early nineties. He has continued with his unique innovative ideas that fully integrate his love of form and sound as both sculptor and musician. In the picture below you can see his original design for an upright bass, drums made with his own methods using hand-made molds for building the drum shells, and his lightweight attractive Bilton Flat Bass, along with some of the other instruments he has made over the years.

He has exhibited his musical instruments at Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston, SC, and at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center in Florence, SC. He was the featured cover artist for the Florence Symphony Orchestra 65th Anniversary Season (2014-15), with an article published about him in the Fall Concert magazine.
